Political News Review: Chairman Xi, Chinese Leader, Visited the United States

        In September, Xi Jinping, China’s chairman, arrived in the United States for visit on Tuesday, September 22. As this was his first visit in America, Chairman Xi was warmly welcomed by Christine Gregoire and Gary Locke, two former Washington governors. 





In the picture above, Chairman Xi Jinping and first lady Peng Liyuan waved when they just arrived at the United States.

        The agenda for the weeklong visit was busy with many meetings. Chairman Xi held meetings in Seattle with Governor Inslee, Washington state Congressional delegates, local officials, and American business executives. The meetings focused on the strategies to face global climate change. In order to combat the climate change, Chairman Xi promoted the cooperation between China and America on the clean-technology businesses. After several meetings, Chairman Xi and the delegation went to Washington D.C. and they were invited to the White House by President Obama. 


         In the picture above, President Obama greeted Chairman Xi on the South Lawn at the White House, including the 21-gun salute. President Obama and Chairman Xi held a conference addressing the problem of cyber crimes and climate change. The two leaders reached common understanding of the cyber crimes and the norms of behavior in the cyber space. In addition, Chairman Xi announced that China will use $3.1 billion to reduce carbon emissions, aiming at helping developing countries to combat global climate change. Chairman Xi’s visit to the U.S. benefited the bilateral relationship between China and America as a whole. The whole visit promoted the economic cooperation between the two countries.
