September/October Issue
Dear Dolly and Don,
How do I get my crush to notice me? P.S. I'm desperate.
Dear Anonymous,
To get anyone to notice you, the first thing that you have to do is talk to them! Don't be scared to just get to know your crush as a friend and a person, and let them get to know you. There is no need to take things too fast. After you spend a lot of time with him or her, you will know if chemistry exists. And if it doesn’t, please remember that there are plenty of fish in the sea—even at Maumee Valley! For the moment, it may be devastating to you that your crush doesn't notice you, but just remember that with time and a little effort, things like this tend to work themselves out.
Dear Dolly and Don,
How do I make new friends?
Dear Anonymous,
Maumee Valley is known for it's close knit community, which is good in some ways, but also makes it more difficult for new students to really find their way into a friend group. I have some friends who told me about their experiences freshmen year trying to make friends and how it was tough at the beginning. It may be daunting, but you just need to be willing to get involved. Social clubs, academic clubs, sports, or school socials are a great way to meet people with similar interests. Remember that everyone has gone through the same struggle to find your place that you are. Most of all, don’t be afraid to talk to people! Most students at MV are happy and welcoming to talk to anyone—and you’re probably not interested in befriending those that aren’t. You're bound to find someone with similar interests.
Dear Dolly and Don,
I was wondering what property of water keep lakes from freezing all the way through. Thanks, fam.
Studying for the first AP Bio test? Just know that it only gets harder.
But really, if you’re interested, keep reading, fam.
Water has many unique properties, but one of the most important is the fact that the solid form is less dense than the liquid form. The effect of this is that when some water freezes, it floats to the top of the body of water, and forms a sheet of ice on top of the liquid. This insulates the water beneath it and keeps it from freezing. Many evolutionary biologists argue that life would not have been able to evolve on earth if this wasn't true about water.
Remember that you can anonymously submit questions using the box on the water bar in the commons. There are (almost) no questions that we won’t answer!
August Issue
What should I ask Dolly and what should I ask Don?
You can ask either of us anything that you wish. The questions can range from anything about how to avoid procrastination to what to wear to homecoming. If you specifically ask one or the other, we will do their best to answer to our ability. If you just ask without addressing either of us, the one with the most experience or knowledge related to the question will answer.
Will Dolly or Don confer with anyone on how to answer questions?
How soon will Don and Dolly answer questions and where can I find them? The only people that we will be discussing questions with is each other. Obviously, if we aren't qualified to answer, we will point you in the right direction!
Who are Dolly and Don?There will be a new set of questions and answers in each new edition of the Maverick. We will answer as many as we can each month.
Dolly and Don are students at Maumee Valley who answer questions for the Maverick. That's all you need to know.
